Steve King is the Senior Manager of E-Freight and Special Projects for the Electrification Coalition. He works with industry leaders like Nestlé, FedEx, Meijer, and Volvo to reduce the sector’s reliance on petroleum fuels, and to accelerate the use of electric freight. Prior to joining the EC Steve’s previous work centered on workforce development, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and equity. He is the founder and former CEO of the Barack Obama Green Charter High School, New Jersey’s first charter high school focused on sustainability. He also developed and managed a Union County, N.J., workforce development program focused on conservation, climate change, and clean energy skills. As a community organizer, Steve worked on environmental justice issues in New York City, focusing on the health impacts of diesel emissions from bus and truck depots in Black and Brown communities. He interned at the Hong Kong Transport Department’s sustainability unit, where he worked to reduce petroleum use in passenger buses. Steven holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pace University in Anthropology and a Master of Arts from The New School in International Affairs. He is a Senior Fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program, and Committee Member of the NAACP’s Environmental and Climate Justice Committee. Steven is also currently an Instructor at UC Davis’s Continuing Education Program teaching a course: Building DEI in Environmental Organizations.
